“He was struggling to run it off so he has probably stretched it maybe pulled it, I don’t know at this stage,” Kingston said. “It’s eight days to the next game so we will have to see how he scrubs up on Monday.”

Care’s injury will also be monitored by England coach Eddie Jones, who named him in the squad to tour Argentina in the summer. The party meet on May 29 and will play two Tests in June.

But it was Evans who kept Harlequins in the game in the first half and who built their lead after the break with a familiar display of accurate kicking. His only miss came in the first half from far out on the right of the pitch.
