Clattenburg can take a bow – he goes out on top
Official is my highest rated of season – others did not do enough to be kept in Premier League
Sadly this has turned out to be Mark’s last season in England and it is my belief that one of the factors in his decision to leave was how he was treated by Professional Game Match Officials Ltd. It failed to appoint him to top matches that would challenge him on a regular basis.
Martin improved his fitness levels and, with it, his on-field performances have benefited. This has been Martin’s best season: he has performed at a consistently high standard, setting an example to his younger colleagues. He is the new No1.
Showed improvement in his on-field mobility, applying dynamic sprints to maintain good contact with the game. However, he needs to improve his accuracy: careless or reckless challenges require appropriate sanction.
Needs to slow his decisionmaking process and give himself thinking time before either blowing his whistle or reaching for a card. He needs to receive the support and advice from an experienced coach to work on consistency.
One of the select group’s oldest referees and usually a safe pair of hands. Mike was the only referee to consistently punish grappling in the penalty area. However, I do believe that this has not been one of his best seasons; he needs to work on his mobility.
A seasoned pro who has made too many errors when it comes to big decisions. However, he has produced a better second half of the season.
Goes about his duties in a quiet and efficient manner, but needs to achieve a greater level of consistency. Improved in the second half of the season and will benefit with regular appointments to top games.
Has demonstrated that he can manage big games. However, needs to change from a reactive referee to a proactive one. Needs to improve communication skills and become a more effective man manager. Issues cards like confetti.
If he is to improve then he needs to work hard on his on-field mobility. He is guilty of making too many big-game errors because he fails to get the appropriate viewing angle. A sprint coach would benefit him.
After a disastrous start to his Premier League career this season, Stuart has made positive progress, finding his confidence and producing some good performances.
I do think that this referee needs to have more regular appointments to help improve his consistency of decision-making. He needs to lose his “nice guy” image and project more authority.
Another mediocre season, with Mike Jones failing to deliver a required performance level in the Premier League.
Clearly liked by PGMOL, but not by me. Inconsistent from game to game and within games. A reactive referee who will produce too many yellow cards. Lucky to maintain his position on the list.
A really nice guy but not able to produce levels of performance required for the Premier League. Simply not good enough for the Premier League.
Like East, he is not good enough for this level. Keith Hackett is a former referee and resident expert for You-are-the-ref.com
