Stoneman carves out 181 for Surrey

Mark Stoneman hit an unbeaten 181 – his third century of the summer – as Surrey reached stumps on 353 for five runs on the opening day of the match against Essex.

Thirteen wickets fell on the first day at Taunton, with

Yorkshire bowled out for just 202 but Ryan Sidebottom dismissed Marcus Trescothic­k, Dean Elgar and Tom Abell cheaply to leave Somerset 41 for three at the close.

Middlesex were made to regret their decision to bat first at Southport after being dismissed for 180 in 51 overs on the first day against

Lancashire, Saqib Mahmood and Jordan Clark taking three wickets apiece. Lancashire were 123 for four at the close, just 57 runs behind.

Division Two leaders Nottingham­shire were frustrated in the field by Gloucester­shire, who reached 256 for seven at the close of play. Gareth Roderick finished unbeaten on 88.

Barry Mccarthy took four for 52 and Paul Collingwoo­d (120) hit a 34th first-class century as Durham enjoyed a fruitful second day against Kent, posting 448 in their first innings. Kent, in reply, were 123 for eight at one stage but captain Sam Northeast (97) dug in with Yasir Shah (37) to post an unbroken partnershi­p of 88 to take them to 211 without futher loss.

Mark Cosgrove hit an unbeaten 122 as

Leicesters­hire made 322 for seven on their first day against Sussex, for whom Joffrey Archer starred with five for 61.

Teenager Conor Mckerr took five for 87 in just his second first-class match as

Northampto­nshire were bowled out for 218.

Derbyshire finished on 153 for six. Ben Cox struck 93 for

Worcesters­hire at New Road before they were dismissed for 267 by

Glamorgan. Josh Tongue took five wickets as Glamorgan closed on 76 for six.
