Murray ready to warm up at Hurlingham

Andy Murray is to prepare for Wimbledon with two exhibition matches at the Aspall Tennis Classic at Hurlingham next week.

The world No 1 has added the event to his schedule following his early exit at Queen’s Club, where he suffered a shock loss to world No 90 Jordan Thompson on Tuesday.

The likes of last year’s Wimbledon runner-up Milos Raonic, Jowilfried Tsonga, Tomas Berdych, Lucas Pouille and Tommy Haas are also playing at Hurlingham.

The exact schedule of Murray’s matches has not yet been confirmed but he is likely to play on Tuesday and Friday. Murray last played at the event in 2014 after he lost in the last 16 at Queen’s.

As defending champion, the 30-year-old will play the first match of the Championships on Wimbledon’s Centre Court on July 3.

Roger Federer remains on course for a ninth title at the Gerry Weber Open in Halle after defeating Florian Mayer in the quarter-finals.

The 35-year-old needed just over an hour to see off Mayer, of Germany, 6-3, 6-4, serving 11 aces and taking two of his 12 break points.

In the semi-finals, Federer will face Karen Khachanov, who won the battle of the young Russians against Andrey Rublev 7-6, 4-6, 6-3.

Luxembourg left-hander Gilles Muller beat former champion Sam Querrey at the Aegon Championships at Queen’s Club. The 34-yearold chalked up a seventh successive victory on grass as he beat the American 6-4, 7-6 to reach the semi-finals.

Petra Kvitova secured the best win of her comeback so far, beating Kristina Mladenovic to reach the semi-finals of the Aegon Classic in Birmingham. The Czech was playing her fifth match since returning from the horrific stabbing she suffered at her home six months ago.

Kvitova has shown encouraging form since returning and defeated world No 12 Mladenovic 6-4, 7-6.
