Lions man marking

- By Gavin Mairs

15 Jack Nowell

Big opportunity to force his way into Test squad and did not disappoint. Potent counterattacking 8 threat.

3 Dan Cole

Huge commitment in carrying and defence, and solid in scrum, but competition is tough 8 for Test spot.

14 Tommy Seymour

A disappointing tour but he finished it on a high, deservedly scoring two tries in a muchimproved 7 display.

4 Iain Henderson

May have done enough to make Test squad with stellar display. Only blight was yellow card for a 9 clear-out.

13 Jonathan Joseph

First return in three games after hand injury. Defensive work impressed, but struggled to impose 6 attacking game.

5 Courtney Lawes

Deserves Test squad place. Showed warrior spirit, competing strongly in line-out and bringing 8 real edge.

12 Robbie Henshaw

Disappointing tour ended in a frustrating fashion. Lasted just 18 minutes before being forced off 5 with a shoulder injury.

6 James Haskell

Committed, but not the force of nature we have seen for England. Also not helped by decision not 6 to use bench.

11 George North

Benefited from switch to centre following Henshaw’s injury, seeing more of the ball and running good 7 support line for his try.

7 Justin Tipuric

Glimpses of link play and speed to the breakdown, but as game became more confrontational his 6 impact waned. 10 Dan Biggar A composed start and landed a brilliant long-range penalty, but lost control as 7 Hurricanes rallied. 8 CJ Stander Lacking impact. Managed some strong carries but overshadowed by Brad Shields and tired as 6 the game wore on. 9 Greig Laidlaw Handling error early on squandered a decent attacking position and again looked off the 5 pace.

Replacement

George Kruis The fact he came on for Lawes in 55th minute suggests he may have lost his place in 6 Test starting XV.

1 Joe Marler

Unfortunate to have such quality rivals at loosehead. Combative display that would normally be 8 enough for Test spot.

Replacement Finn

Russell Replaced Biggar in 43rd minute while he underwent head injury check, but lost ball on 4 first involvement.

2 Rory Best

Led side superbly, putting in a huge defensive display and carrying hard. Set-piece was assured, 7 apart from one scrum.

Replacement Leigh

Halfpenny The fact he replaced Henshaw in 18th minute suggests Test squad place is under 5 threat. Disappointing.
