Everton agree Sigurdsson fee

- By John Percy

Gylfi Sigurdsson will undergo a medical at Everton today after Ronald Koeman’s side finally agreed a £45 million fee with Swansea for the Icelandic international.

Everton had previously had two bids rejected for the midfielder but have now agreed to pay an initial £40m, with a further £5m in addons, to complete a deal that that will smash their transfer record. The 27-year-old is expected to sign a five-year deal and be available for Monday’s game with Manchester City. The deal will take Everton’s summer spending to £131 million after the signings of Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane and Davy Klaassen, with Wayne Rooney also joining on a free transfer.

Swansea are targeting West Bromwich Albion’s Nacer Chadli as a direct replacement for Sigurdsson, but they will demand £25million for their record signing. Chadli is set to leave West Brom this month after falling out of favour with Tony Pulis but the club are determined to hold out for a significant fee.

Swansea are also expected to agree a deal for Wilfried Bony to return to the club from Manchester City. Swansea have had a £10million bid turned down by City for the Ivorian striker but are now set to meet the £13 million asking price for a player they sold for £28million in 2015. Meanwhile, Everton have offloaded Barry to Albion for £800,000 to end the 36-year-old’s four-year spell with the club. Barry completed his medical yesterday and has signed a one-year contract.
