FA to rule about Ewood Park trouble

- By Ian Whittell

Blackburn and Burnley face an anxious wait to learn whether they face FA action after their Carabao Cup derby on Wednesday was marred by crowd trouble.

Lancashire Police charged four fans last night following Burnley’s 2-0 win while the Football Association wrote to both clubs for their observations and asking for video footage of a number of flashpoints at Ewood Park which led to five arrests.

The FA does have the right to hand clubs a disciplinary charge if they feel they did not do enough to control their own fans.

The Lancashire Assistant Chief Constable, Terry Woods, said: “We expected and planned for a lively match, which is exactly what we got. That said, a small number have yet again let the fans down.”

A Blackburn spokesman said: “The club is working closely with the police and football authorities. We will assist fully with this ongoing investigation, as well as conducting our own internal inquiry.”

Jordan Woods, 30, is accused of two counts of assault by beating and one of pitch encroachment, Callum Linnane, 24, has been charged with throwing a missile on to a football playing area, Connor Woods, 28, is charged with pitch encroachment. All are from Blackburn.

John Mcqueenie, 42, from Burnley is charged with possession of a firework/ flare at a sporting event.
