Kodjia could get Boro call

-

Aston Villa striker Jonathan Kodjia might play some part in tomorrow’s visit of Middlesbrough after missing four months with a broken ankle.

Manager Steve Bruce will watch last season’s top scorer Kodjia seek to complete his first 45 minutes of football since his injury when he plays for the under-23s against Southampton tonight. Bruce said the 27-year-old may then feature against title favourites Boro as Villa seek to kick-start their season.

“It’s a big game on Monday for Kodj to see if he can get through it. If he can play 45 minutes, can he then play some part on Tuesday?” said Bruce. Villa fans booed their team on Saturday after the 0-0 home draw with Brentford.

Sunderland manager Simon Grayson also faces a tough job winning over supporters after a third successive defeat, 2-1 against

Sheffield United, whose day was slightly spoilt by an injury to new striker Clayton Donaldson who pulled a hamstring in scoring his second goal.

Tomorrow Sunderland face

Nottingham Forest who lost 3-1 at

Sheffield Wednesday, their third defeat in four games.

Leeds United striker Pierremichel Lasogga scored twice on his debut in the 5-0 rout of Burton Albion. The 25-year-old joined Leeds on a season-long loan from Bundesliga side Hamburg on deadline day and had not started a game since November.

Wolves are also riding high after beating 10-man Millwall 1-0 with an excellent goal from Diogo Jota. Birmingham City’s Jota, meanwhile, failed to make much of an impact as one of six Blues debutants in the 1-0 defeat at

Norwich City.
