Froome will race in world time trial

Chris Froome will compete for Great Britain in the individual time trial at the Road World Championships in Norway next week but not in the road race. Lizzie Deignan will lead the women’s road-race team just weeks after having her appendix removed.

There are no spots for Mark Cavendish or Geraint Thomas, however. Both returned to racing at the recent Tour of Britain but are still some way short of their best form after crashing out of the Tour in July with a broken shoulder and a broken collarbone respectively.

Froome became the first Briton to win the Vuelta a Espana on Sunday but it remains to be seen what sort of form he will be able to retain after racing almost constantly since the start of July.
