Jokanovic ‘stressed’ by wasteful Fulham in spite of win

- By Ian Baker at Craven Cottage Opening gambit: Fulham forward Floyd Ayite fires his side ahead against Hull

Fulham finally registered a first home win of the campaign as their forwards proved just why they are such a big threat away from Craven

Cottage. Slavisa Jokanovic’s side are ideally suited to the counter-attack with the pace of Floyd Ayite, Neeskens Kebano and Sheyi Ojo difficult for opposing defences.

But Fulham did not win this game anywhere like as convincingly as they should have done after Jarrod Bowen cancelled out Ayite’s first-half goal before Stefan Johansen scored the winner.

Their head coach was a frustrated man afterwards. “We must improve and we must be more clinical,” Jokanovic said. “I was worried and it was not a healthy game for us and our supporters. We put a stress on ourselves and I cannot be satisfied at the moment.”

Hull were looking for a response after losing 5-0 at Derby County, but it was Fulham who did most of the early running with Ayite missing glaringly from Oliver Norwood’s corner with Allan Mcgregor spectacularly saving his second shot.

They did settle nerves with the first goal on 42 minutes as on-loan Liverpool forward Oji’s speed down the left set up Ayite, who could not miss from six yards for his first goal of the season. Fulham should have sealed victory within minutes of the restart, but Ryan Sessegnon headed wide from Ayite’s cross from the right and what followed certainly seemed unnecessary from their perspective.
