Striker twists his right ankle again

-

The sight of Harry Kane leaving the Vitality Stadium on crutches after rolling his right ankle (below) will especially concern England and Tottenham fans because he had injured the joint twice already in the past 18 months.

The striker sustained ligament damage when he twisted the ankle during a 1-0 victory over Sunderland in September 2016. That ruled Kane out of competitive action for six weeks. He missed five games in the Premier League, three Champions League group-stage fixtures and two EFL Cup ties.

Tottenham fans feared the worst when he rolled the ankle again in the 6-0 FA Cup win over Millwall in March 2017, having caught his leg under the defender Jake Cooper. As before, he left the stadium in a protective boot.

This time, the ligament damage was not as severe and Kane missed only four league matches, returning to help beat Bournemouth 4-0 a month later. Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino will hope for a similarly positive prognosis this week.
