£28m was ‘well spent’ – Crouch
Sports Minister Tracey Crouch insists that the £28 million UK Sport ploughed into Great Britain’s Winter Olympics was money well spent.
Team GB enjoyed a record-breaking competition in South Korea last month, bringing back five medals.
But criticisms have been raised over the level of investment, particularly in the wake of news that Great Britain’s eight basketball teams could fold if British Basketball does not find £1million before the end of the month.
Crouch, who met UK Sport, British Basketball and Sport England last week to discuss their funding issues, does not think the Winter Olympics funding is in any way relatable to the plight of basketball.
“I believe it was money well spent, getting medals goes on and inspires a nation,” the MP added.
