Sarries can clinch top spot by beating Bristol

- By Kate Rowan

Harlequins Ladies, Saracens Women, Wasps FC Ladies and Gloucester-hartpury will be the four sides heading to the play-offs in the inaugural season of the Tyrrells Premier 15s.

However, due to the postponement of a number of fixtures during last month’s bad weather, three rescheduled fixtures will go ahead next weekend in an extension to the regular season after what was supposed to be the 18th and final round before the play-offs.

Top spot in the league will hinge on Saracens’ away trip to Bristol on Friday, as the north London side fell into second place behind Harlequins, with just two points separating them.

Quins, who have played all their fixtures, edged past Saracens 32-29. The hosts went into the interval trailing 22-12 despite starting brightly, forcing a penalty try and back-row Bryony Cleall driving over in the seventh minute. However, Quins improved from the 20-minute mark. After securing a penalty inside the Saracens half, fly-half Ellie Green stepped up to kick for goal, which brought Quins’ first points.

Just after the half-hour, wing Holly Myers scored her side’s opening try off the back of an intercept. Myers then ran in for her second followed by hooker Davinia Catlin crossing for Quins’ third try.

Saracens seemed to be out of the game after Quins took a 20-point lead with an hour played after another Green penalty and a try from Shaunagh Brown, playing at blindside. However, a Sarries fightback, with tries from wing Emma Uren, England back-row Poppy Cleall and hooker May Campbell, brought them to three points behind.

Wasps, despite having to play Waterloo next Saturday, are certain of a third-place finish after a 44-17 win over Richmond.

Gloucester-hartpury secured the final play-off spot after beating

Loughborough Lightning 36-8.

Waterloo earned their second win of the season over winless

Worcester. Bristol Ladies sit in sixth behind Loughborough after a 36-19 win over Darlington Mowden Park Sharks.
