Ayew brothers commit to Swans’ fight

- At Liberty Stadium

Swansea’s goalscoring saviour Jordan Ayew believes some brotherly love is exactly what the club need to ensure they maintain their Premier League status for another season.

Carlos Carvalhal’s side are yet to be beaten when the 26-year-old has scored, and he struck again to snatch a deserved draw against Everton. The 11-goal striker has stepped up a level since being joined by his brother Andre in January from West Ham United, and they are desperate to repay the club’s faith during the run-in to the end of the season.

“We know that we will always fight and die for this club, because it has given me and my brother so much,” said Ayew. “It’s been a dream come true. I’ve been really pleased and really happy because my brother is out with me, pressing the opposition and pushing me hard, urging me forward to score more goals, and to be more effective than ever.”

The Swans are now five points clear of the bottom three with five games left, but their next two matches are against Manchester City and Chelsea.

It looked as if they were heading for their first home defeat in five when the ball ricocheted off Kyle Naughton and went into his own net just before the break. But Ayew controlled Naughton’s sliced cross in the 71st minute and found the bottom corner of the Everton net to earn a valuable point.

“All the players are going in the right direction and working hard,” he added. “We are taking steps forward and, in a few weeks, we will have smiles on our faces.

“I think when they scored that was the first cross they had managed and it was the 43rd minute. Until then, we were all over them and they couldn’t breathe. But that’s football and we just need to keep working hard.”
