Arsenal Women eyeing a 15th FA Cup victory

-

Arsenal’s pursuit of a 15th Women’s FA Cup is very much on course after they beat Everton 2-1 to set up an all-london final with Chelsea.

Arsenal looked to be heading for extra-time until Louise Quinn stepped up with an injury-time winner to secure their place in a 16th FA Cup final.

Danielle Carter scored Arsenal’s opener in the 25th minute, before Chloe Kelly equalised from the spot midway through the second half.

“In the second half we created just as many chances and it was probably our fault in a way that we made it such a dramatic game,” Carter said.

“But we always had belief – with the players in the pitch and the ones that we brought on – that we would win.

“We now have a chance to win our 15th FA Cup, which is massive and we are just going to go into that game and try and get the job done.”

Two Fran Kirby goals secured Chelsea’s place at Wembley as they beat Manchester City 2-0.

The England striker, nicknamed “Mini Messi” by former England Women manager Mark Sampson, grabbed her first in the fifth minute and made the game safe with a cool finish late on.

The Blues could yet secure the treble as they are top of the Women’s Super League and just one step away from the Champions League final.

They also dominate the Women’s Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year shortlist with five of the six candidates announced yesterday.

Kirby and defender Millie Bright are strong contenders for the top award, with South Korean playmaker Ji So-yun, Norwegian midfielder Maren Mjelde and Swiss forward Ramona Bachmann also nominated.

Manchester City midfielder Jill Scott is also on the list.
