Urban Fox floors odds-on Forever Together

-

Urban Fox lowered the colours of the Investec Oaks winner, Forever Together, with a powerful display in the Juddmonte Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh yesterday.

Forever Together, trained by Aidan O’brien, was 4-6 to follow up her Classic triumph at Epsom and was one of three Ballydoyle runners in the six-strong Group One field.

However, it was clear rounding the home turn that the William Haggas-trained Urban Fox was travelling much the best and, running again just 11 days after finishing fourth in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot, the 9-1 chance galloped strongly up the home straight to record a comprehensive 3¼-length success over the favourite.

The defeat of Forever Together followed that of stablemate Saxon Warrior at even-money in the Irish Derby on Saturday.

Maureen Haggas, the trainer’s wife and assistant, said: “William said he wanted to step her up in trip and she has really enjoyed it. She is a beautiful, big filly and she’ll give the owners a beautiful mare when she goes to stud.”

In France, Waldgeist narrowly beat John Gosden’s Coronet in a thrilling finish to the Grand Prix de Saint-cloud.

Waldgeist was a hot favourite to provide trainer Andre Fabre with an eighth success in the race but he had to work hard to master Frankie Dettori and Coronet.

The two horses were locked together throughout the final furlong, with Waldgeist winning by a nose.
