Yorkshire still in peril despite draw with Notts

-

Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire drifted towards a draw in their Specsavers County Championship Division One match at Trent Bridge yesterday, which saw both counties collect 12 points.

Yorkshire, 357 for five overnight, chose to bat on until being bowled out in early afternoon for 498.

Tom Kohler-cadmore made 106 to register a maiden first-class century for the White Rose, while Tim Bresnan scored 80 and Matthew Waite made a career-best 42 as the visitors claimed maximum batting bonus points for the first time this season.

Notts left-arm bowler Samit Patel, meanwhile, picked up figures of six for 114 from 47 overs.

That gave the visitors a lead of 50 over the hosts, who replied with 93 for one in their second innings, Notts opener Kraigg Brathwaite finishing unbeaten on 42.

Nevertheless, results elsewhere see Yorkshire remain in the relegation zone, a point behind rivals Lancashire ahead of their Roses clash at Headingley next week.

In Division Two, promotionchasing Warwickshire were left frustrated as Durham batted out the evening session to secure a draw at Edgbaston.

Set 218 to win from 41 overs, the visitors looked well placed before Olly Stone claimed four wickets to help reduce Durham to 102 for eight with only seven overs remaining.

However, wicketkeeper Stuart Poynter and Matt Salisbury put on a resolute ninth-wicket partnership of 13 runs from 35 balls to blunt the Warwickshire attack.

The hosts had started the day 28 for one, and were eventually all out for 199 as India spinner Axar Patel claimed seven for 54. Sam Hain had made an unbeaten 58.

Second-placed Kent maintained their promotion push as New Zealand’s Matt Henry claimed four for 72 in a 102-run victory over Northamptonshire at Canterbury.
