Sanchez recall Martial to be dropped for Chilean

- James Ducker

Anthony Martial is likely to be dropped against Wolves today, with Jose Mourinho preparing to restore Alexis Sanchez to his starting XI.

Martial claimed his first goal for eight months in Manchester United’s 3-0 Champions League win over Young Boys in Bern on Wednesday. But the France forward is expected to make way for Sanchez, despite Marcus Rashford being suspended. Nemanja Matic is also suspended while rightback Diogo Dalot will make way for Antonio Valencia. Trafford, where Wolves are looking for their first win in 38 years.

“If you change it doesn’t make sense, no matter who you play,” he said. “You have to adapt, you have to respect, you have to be humble and recognise you are in the face of a strong team, but you cannot be changed or fear. None of those things are part of us, we go there as ourselves to compete.”

Nuno gives thanks to the way Mourinho, his now rival, became a trailblazer for Portuguese coaches. “I truly believe Mourinho was the first manager that opened the door for all of us that came after,” he said. “He was the first one who proved the quality of Portuguese managers, and allowed us to have a chance away from our country.”

So, would it have been more difficult without him? “Yes, yes, yes. Not only me, I think a lot of managers after that achieved and got the chance to come to the Premier League because they were related to Mourinho,” Nuno said with Marco Silva, Andre Villasboas and Carlos Carvalhal all having managed in the Premier League and all having had a link to, or friendship with, Mourinho.

Nine of the Porto match-day squad from that 2004 final have gone into coaching.

“A lot of us in that team became managers. That says a lot. We love the game,” said Nuno, who has undoubtedly been the biggest success.
