Johnson looks up despite Millwall draw
Lee Johnson insisted Bristol City could still join the play-off race even though they threw away a lead against struggling Millwall.
City took a second-half lead through an own goal from centreback Jake Cooper. A cross from the left by Niclas Eliasson led to the goal as Famara Diedhiou closed in and spooked Cooper into turning the ball into his own net.
City surrendered their advantage with 12 minutes to go when Shaun Williams latched onto a knockdown from Steve Morison and volleyed home. That earned Millwall a much-needed point to lift them up a place to 22nd. Having conceded an own goal, the equaliser was a real bonus for manager Neil Harris.
“It’s a very valuable point and I felt we were worthy of it because of our response when we fell behind,” said Harris, who is awaiting medical reports on the knee injury suffered by striker Aiden O’brien, who was carried off on a stretcher.
Despite not having won at Ashton Gate since October, Johnson still believes things are looking up for his team.
“We have come off a bad run and to take four points from our last two matches shows we are capable of moving up the table,” said Johnson. “You have to pay respect to the resilience of Millwall. They are very direct and physical and Steve Morison is a real handful.”
