How the fight unfolded

- By Molly Mcelwee

Round 1

Fury comes in with a right hand and left hook and, as the bell goes, has his hands in the air, smiling. That last combination might have given him the edge.

Davies’ verdict: Fury 10-9

Round 2

Fury is still mocking Wilder – he’s got his hands in the air, telling him to show him what he’s got. Wilder landed a big punch in the end. Fury says to the champion: “You’re a bum.”

Davies: Fury 10-9

Round 3

Fury makes Wilder miss as he draws him to the ropes, and is able to respond with a strong right hand to the American’s face. Fury’s looking at him as if to say: “I out-boxed you there.”

Davies: Fury 10-9

Round 4

“USA, USA, USA” is ringing out in the arena and Wilder looks a bit closer in this round. Fury is still making him miss effectively, Wilder is still not landing enough punches.

Davies: Fury 10-9

Round 5

It is still cagey, there is not much happening except a lot of misses from Wilder again. Probably the quietest round so far. The bruising on Wilder’s face perhaps an indication of who is edging it.

Davies: Fury 10-9

Round 6

The Fury fans are getting louder. The Briton is showing great movement and is sticking to his game-plan. Fury’s trainer, Ben Davison, seems to think he won it, too. Wilder’s eye is swelling considerably.

Davies: Fury 10-9

Round 7

Is Wilder going to go mad and start upping the tempo? No, Fury is landing all the punches, connecting well with his shots as Wilder is missing again, and again. They get into a clinch for the first time.

Davies: Fury 10-9

Round 8

Fury finished at the bell punching his own head, telling Wilder he is not making clean enough shots. He is showboating, but with good reason so far. The Briton gets a good right hand in late in the round, too.

Davies: Fury 10-9

Round 9

Wilder has finally arrived. He is landing explosive power shots early in the round and Fury is down on the canvas. It only takes one punch. Fury gets back up, but Wilder is throwing everything at him.

Davies: Wilder 10-8

Round 10

Wilder’s tank looks empty, he is very tired. He is swinging, but it is not with the same ferocious power of the last round. Fury held on well and did not allow Wilder any room to do more damage.

Davies: Fury 10-9

Round 11

Wilder is the epitome of an athlete at a glance, but Fury seems the fitter fighter. The Alabaman does not look like he has enough left – but it only takes one punch. The British fans are celebrating as the bell goes.

Davies: Fury 10-9

Round 12

Wilder lands a massive punch in the first minute, Fury is on the ground again, it looks like it is all over. Wilder is dancing, laughing. But somehow the Gypsy King peels himself off the canvas.

Davies: Wilder 10-8 Overall: Fury 116-110
