George warns that Saracens have still not found top gear

Saracens may be the only unbeaten side in the Premiership, making it nine wins from nine this season and overtaking Exeter at the top of the table, but man of the match Jamie George believes that the leaders are far from reaching their peak.

George, who scored one of his side’s two tries and no doubt benefited from the confidence of starting ahead of Dylan Hartley in England’s final autumn international against Australia, said: “The nice thing is we are not actually where we want to be. There are only a couple of games this season when we have been on it. I like that we are building towards something. That is the thing that excites me.”

The hooker scored the first try of the match on the hour, on the back of good work from Alex Goode, who started at fly-half, after his side were ahead through flawless kicking from Alex Lozowski, looking like a man on a mission after being omitted from Eddie Jones’s England squad against the Wallabies.

George does not see why Saracens cannot maintain a winning record for the entire season.

“I think what we have got to make sure we do is keep pounding the rock. If we keep doing the basic things well, and if we keep coming into work every day wanting to get better, wanting to progress, and we have got the right people in the right places wanting to make sure we have that, then we could do something special this season.”

Wasps’ only points came from two long-range kicks from Elliot Daly, who started at his preferred position at outside centre after playing for England at full-back. However, the British and Irish Lion will more likely dwell on his pass on his own line which was intercepted by Nick Isiekwe.
