Southampton to hang on
wood’s free-kick. VAR later reversed those celebrations after ruling that John Egan had been offside before Mcburnie finished.
Mcburnie subsequently posted a message on social media of Morocco’s Noureddine Amrabat mouthing: “VAR is bulls---.”
The incidents all added up to a frustrating afternoon for the Blades, who were undone by another moment of class from Southampton goalscorer Moussa Djenepo in the 66th minute.
Djenepo scored Southampton’s first in the 2-0 win at Brighton last month, a stunning strike from outside the penalty area, and the Mali forward’s weaving run and finish made up for the near misses by Southampton striker Che Adams, who was facing one of his former clubs.
Adams is yet to score for his new team this season, having netted 22 times in the Championship for Birmingham in the last campaign.
He said: “The most important thing is I’m getting into good positions to score goals.
“As a striker, these things happen and you’ve got to keep at it.
“From when Moussa stepped through the door, you could see his ability and that’s why the club signed him.
“I think he will be a massive player for us.” Moussa Djenepo introduced himself to the Premier League with this brilliant run and finish. Southampton’s summer signing skipped around Oliver Norwood about 40 yards from goal before showing sharp footwork to dribble past John Egan and Jack O’connell. The 21-year-old Malian winger, whose transfer fee could rise to
£15 million, then drilled his shot into the corner of Dean Henderson’s goal.
