Klopp ‘not worried’ by team’s slump in form

- By Matt Law at Stamford Bridge

Jurgen Klopp insisted that he and his Liverpool players would not panic after slipping to their third successive defeat away from home.

Having lost in the Champions League to Atletico Madrid and suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season at Watford, Liverpool were knocked out of the FA Cup at Chelsea last night.

Goals from Willian and former Everton midfielder Ross Barkley secured victory after Liverpool made seven changes to the team who were beaten by Watford.

The runaway Premier League leaders have failed to score in all three of their defeats, conceding six goals. They also had to fight back from 2-1 down to beat West Ham and Klopp said: “We have to admit that in the last four games we conceded absolutely too many goals.

“But they are completely different situations, so it’s not one problem. I’m not worried about momentum. You don’t get it as a present. We have done very well, but tonight was not good enough and that is what we have to accept.”

Asked about the fact Liverpool had not scored in any of their defeats, Klopp added: “I have no arguments against the numbers. Everyone can interpret them like they want. I know the number and it’s not cool. We don’t want to concede and we want to score more. But we’re not 100 miles away and the boys are strong. We have to show this reaction once more.”

Liverpool will try to overturn their 1-0 deficit against Atletico at Anfield next week and Klopp said he was not concerned by the number of games his players face.

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard said: “We can’t ask for any more. What a team they are. We defended with everything, played well and deserved to win the game.”
