Eddie is wrong – I do know rugby, even if I played 20 years ago

improved carrier. There is a good balance. Elsewhere, it is great to see Anthony Watson return.

I think Elliot Daly is a great rugby player, although we have not seen how great he could be quite yet. With Jonny May, this is the back three who played so well against New Zealand in the World Cup.

The Italy game is postponed, so this is likely to be the last match of the Six Nations for England for a few months. You would think that England’s tour to Japan must be in danger, and the only time they can replay the Italy game would appear to be in September, before the 2020-21 Premiership season starts.

If they miss that summer tour, the players should be in decent nick by September. England might not have that much preparation time but, with respect, they are playing Italy. I do not mind that the game is being delayed rather than going ahead behind closed doors. For a start, why should the players travel where it is unsafe for supporters to be? Leaving the possibility for the game to be played at a later date provides the chance for Italy to bring in more money, so their team can improve.

In the same vein, the Rugby Football Union obviously wanted the Wales game to go ahead, not least because it is a Saturday at Twickenham – and, therefore, its best chance to generate revenue.

Wales are notoriously difficult to play against and you have to go at them full speed ahead. In Cardiff last year, England were brilliant in the first half. Then they did not kick on. They thought they could absorb pressure. Wales love that type of game, which seems to be why Eddie (below) has gone for a six-two split of forwards on the bench. I do not understand that.

Another thing that has not changed in 20 years, and Eddie will appreciate this because of his stature, is that the game is for all shapes and sizes. Look at how France are playing. They do not come with a massive pack, as they might have done in the past, and try to maul you to death. They have threats all over the pitch. England do as well. So, rather than playing without the ball and lying in wait for a mistake, why do they not look to strike from anywhere with this great back line? Having one of Curry and Underhill might help. If you have only one of them playing, you can build that competitive edge. It is like when Dawson and Bracken went head to head for the scrum-half role.

But that was 20 years ago. Maybe the game has changed.
