Cuthbert signs up for more success with Chelsea

- By Katie Whyatt

Scotland international Erin Cuthbert has signed a new three-year contract at Chelsea, days after forward Bethany England chose to stay.

Cuthbert, 22, won the Women’s Super League and FA Cup Double during her first full season with the club in 2018, and last season featured in all but two games as Chelsea regained the league title and won the Continental Tyres League Cup.

The former Glasgow City midfielder will make her 100th Chelsea appearance next season.

On signing the extension until 2023, Cuthbert said: “It means so much to me. I’ve been here 3½ years now and this club feels like home to me. I can’t imagine myself anywhere else.

“I’ve had so many incredible moments. The FA Cup final at Wembley was an incredible moment just because I had my family there.

“Now I’ve completed all the domestic ones, I want more and I feel like I can achieve that at this club. I want the treble, but that includes the Champions League, so I think I have to say the quadruple. ”

The news came two days after England, the WSL player of the year, pledged herself to the club until 2024. Chelsea won the league title on points-per-game after last season was curtailed because of the coronavirus pandemic. The top two clubs, Chelsea and Manchester City were nominated as the English clubs to compete in the 2020-21 Women’s Champions League.

General manager Paul Green added: “We think Erin is one of the best young players in the world and we’re delighted that she’s extended her contract.

“Erin’s been developing very well since she’s been at the club, improving each year, and we’re lucky to have her.”
