Roberts ‘feeling fine’ as Pro14 ready to restart after no further positive Covid tests

The Welsh Rugby Union have reported no further positive tests for Covid-19 following the latest round of testing on Tuesday, with Dragons centre Jamie Roberts confirming he was “feeling fine” after previously testing positive.

The news of no further positive cases was a major boost for Dragons and the Pro14 ahead of the season’s restart this weekend, with Dragons to face Ospreys on Sunday.

Cardiff Blues will take on Scarlets this weekend, as the league returns with two rounds of derby matches before the start of the knockout stages, after the Pro14 season was suspended in March due to Covid-19.

More positive tests would have added disruption to the longawaited return of professional rugby in Wales.

“Welsh Rugby has conducted a further 288 tests this week, taking the total to 1,665. There have been no additional positive tests recorded at this point,” the WRU said in a statement.

“The individual who had previously tested positive is currently isolating and was not tested in the latest round of Welsh Rugby’s testing programme this week. All Public Health Wales and Government guidelines have been followed.”

Roberts addressed the reports yesterday, writing on Twitter that he appreciated the messages of support he had received, while also questioning how his medical information had been made public.

“Appreciate messages re. Covid. I’m feeling fine. Lot of DIY at home,” Roberts said. “Delighted no other positive tests. How was my confidential medical information published?”

Roberts returned to Wales following the cancellation of the Super Rugby season in March, having been based in South Africa playing for the Stormers.
