Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes Horse-by-horse guide by Sam Haggas

-

1. Battaash

Smashed track record at Glorious Goodwood last time to go with the 5f course record he holds at York. Untouchable this season; that looks set to continue.

2. Emaraaty Ana

Winner on his only previous visit to the track, albeit over 6f. Neither the drop in trip nor the step up in class look obvious moves here.

3. Moss Gill

Coming from a careerbest performance in a Listed race (over course and distance) that has produced two of the past seven Nunthorpe winners. Not to be underestimated.

4. Ornate

Lowered course record at Goodwood last time, but so did two that finished in front of him. Came up short on all previous visits to York. Will do well to make the frame.

5. A’ali

Carving out a very solid record at 5f. However, this is just his second try at Group One and he has to step up in his toughest assignment to date.

6. Art Power

His three wins this term have come over a stiff 5f and 6f twice. How will he cope with this speed test?

7. Kurious

Sandown specialist who has failed to make the frame in her four starts away from there. Looks likely to come up short.

8. Que Amoro

Comes forward from the same form line as Moss Gill. Typical Michael Dods-trained improver and rates a very lively outsider.

Verdict

Race revolves around three-time Group One winner and four-time course record-breaker

Battaash, who can take back-to-back victories. Que Amoro is fancied to go very well at a big price for the fairer sex, who have won six of the past nine runnings.
