Ronaldo dismay as 10-man Porto knock out Juve

-

Cristiano Ronaldo cut a forlorn figure at the Allianz Stadium in Turin as 10-man Porto upset Juventus to reach the Champions League quarter-finals on away goals after a 4-4 aggregate draw despite losing 3-2.

Sergio Oliveira’s extra-time freekick for Porto’s second goal proved decisive for the visitors.

Porto had taken the lead in the 19th minute with an Oliveira penalty before Federico Chiesa levelled the scores on the night four minutes into the second half.

The game turned further in Juventus’s favour as Mehdi Taremi needlessly got sent off for picking up a second yellow card in the 54th minute for kicking the ball away, with Chiesa levelling the scoreline on aggregate with a header in the 63rd minute.

The hosts, driven on by Ronaldo, had chances to win the tie but the game went to extra time and the drama was far from over as Porto won a free-kick which Oliveira drilled home to spark wild scenes of celebration.

Adrien Rabiot’s header three minutes from time for Juventus ensured a grandstand finish in an enthralling encounter, but Porto held on for a famous victory.

Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland became the fastest and youngest player to reach 20 goals in the Champions League after scoring twice against Sevilla.

Haaland’s goals helped Dortmund secure a 2-2 draw in their second-leg match that sent them into the quarter-finals

5-4 on aggregate. The 20-year-old Norwegian has taken just 14 matches to reach the 20-goal mark, with 10 fewer appearances than the previous record holder, Tottenham ’s Harry Kane. He is also more than a year younger than Paris St-germain’s Kylian Mbappe when he reached that mark just short of his 22nd birthday.

Haaland’s first goal was a tap in from a Marco Reus cutback, but his second was a retaken penalty after his first effort was saved. The penalty was awarded after a Var review involving a foul on Haaland minutes earlier.
