My team of the weekend

-

Maggie Alphonsi

15 Stuart Hogg

(Scotland)

His team ended up on the wrong side of another tight scoreline yesterday, but Hogg showed real leadership, especially after moving to fly-half following Finn Russell’s withdrawal with 20 minutes left.

14 (England)

Anthony Watson

The right wing celebrated his 50th England cap by scoring another try, his 22nd in Test rugby, and the Bath player was electric with ball in hand throughout the thriller against France at Twickenham.

13

Henry Slade (England)

It was an understated display from the Exeter centre, but he applied pressure with clever kicking and kept the menacing Virimi Vakatawa quiet. He even forced a turnover from his opposite number.

12 Owen Farrell (England)

Immaculate from the tee on the way to scoring 13 points at Twickenham, the England captain defended with impressive energy to confound the critics. Robbie Henshaw continues his fine tournament for Ireland.

11

Josh Adams

(Wales)

Damian Penaud finished off France’s fantastic strikemove for a wonderful try in the first half at Twickenham, but the Welshman (left) deserves his place after his try in Wales’s rout of Italy in Rome.

10 George Ford

(England)

The Leicester stand-off makes it an all-england midfield. Ford released Watson for the wing’s try and generally controlled matters. Matthieu Jalibert and Johnny Sexton also guided their teams effectively.

9

Antoine Dupont (France)

Although not at his phenomenal best, the 24-year-old still scored a gorgeous try at Twickenham and troubled England. His opposite number, Ben Youngs, deserves credit for his best display in some time.

James Ryan

(Ireland)

Scotland’s line-out was completely derailed by Ireland at Murrayfield yesterday and Ryan (right) was their chief tormentor. Ireland will hope that he is fit enough to face England next week after going off before the end.
