Amateur champion Joe Long is one of seven English players named in the 10-man Great Britain and Ireland team for next month’s Walker Cup. Long is joined in the side by compatriots Barclay Brown, Alex Fitzpatrick, Angus Flanagan, Ben Jones, Matty Lamb and Ben Schmidt. Scotland’s Sandy Scott and the Irish pair of John Murphy and Mark Power make up the team which will attempt to win back the trophy at Seminole in Florida on May 8-9. England’s Jack Dyer and Jake Bolton are reserves.
Rugby League
Former St Helens half-back Kyle Eastmond could make his Leeds debut against his old club in their Betfred Challenge Cup tie. The dual-code international was left out of Saturday’s opening Super League game against Wakefield and coach Richard Agar says he is unlikely to play against Castleford in Friday’s round two game at St Helens. That could pave the way for Eastmond to make his eagerly anticipated return against Saints in the televised third-round tie at the Totally Wicked Stadium on Saturday week.
Basketball
Russell Westbrook became the first player in NBA history to finish with at least 35 points, 10 rebounds and 20 assists in the same game as he led the Washington Wizards to a 132-124 win over the Indiana Pacers. The point guard’s 35 points, 14 rebounds and 21 assists were added to by 26 points from Rui Hachimura. James Harden claimed his 12th triple-double of the season to match Jason Kidd’s franchise record and help the Brooklyn Nets defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 112-107.
