Under Helm Sycamore in mist

For seven days in midwinter 2016, Rob and Harriet walked to and camped with each of the seven trees. It was a week of unseasonably mild but grey days. Setting out for the Under Helm Sycamore, which stands on a rocky hillside in the Grasmere valley, they were engulfed by fog. They climbed above the tree and for just 10 minutes the fog lifted, granting this fleeting view, with the tree shrouded and the tops of Fairfield and Seat Sandal behind. The call of a peregrine echoed in the gloom.
