Fresh ideas for the home
ART OF GLASS
In a match made in lighting heaven, Derbyshire-based brand Curiousa & Curiousa, which has made a name for its pretty, coloured-glass pendants, has worked with master glassblower Fabio Fornasier on a new Murano-glass light. Available in four rich tones, the Fabio has a fluid, contemporary shape and a hand-silvered stem, and can be hung on its own or, for those with seriously deep pockets, in a cluster to make a spectacular chandelier; curiousa.co.uk.
TAILOR MADE
The trend for customised furniture continues with the launch of Hampshire-based &Bespoke by designers Roger Bannister and Steven Owens. The idea is that customers can commission a design from scratch, working with the duo to produce a one-off piece perfectly tailored to their needs. Owens comes from Benchmark Furniture, which he helped to establish with Sean Sutcliffe and Terence Conran in 2004, and that same focus on natural woods and high-quality craftsmanship can be seen here. You can also buy from a collection of 14 pieces, including tables, chairs and a curved sofa – all made in the UK and available in a choice of sizes and materials; andbespoke.com.
FRINGE BENEFITS
Tassels, fringing, embroidery and appliqué are on the style agenda, as the vogue for maximalism has brought passementerie – decorative trimmings for furniture and accessories – back into the spotlight. For its latest collection, Samuel & Sons has teamed up with American interior designer Timothy Corrigan, known for creating and restoring opulent rooms, who has taken inspiration from his own 18th-century French chateau. The result is Chevallerie, a range of exquisitely handwoven tassels, tie-backs and trims in jewel tones and icy pastels, all of which would add a touch of grandeur to a curtain, cushion or chair; samuelandsons.com.
FLOWER SHOW
Online florist Bloom & Wild has interpreted four classic Liberty prints in limited-edition bouquets. Flowers such as roses, delphiniums and freesias have been chosen to echo the colours and styles of the patterns, and each bunch comes in matching, letter-box-friendly packaging. Available until 18 November. From £35, bloomandwild.com.
