The latest news from the world of fashion

The fashion book to buy this week? Dina Torkia (right), the British Muslim fashion blogger, has written a first-of-its-kind style guide to modest dressing, regardless of your religion. ‘I’ve been blogging about the modest fashion movement for 10 years now,’ she explains. ‘But it is still a relatively new concept that the Western fashion industry is embracing. Modesty is now an option for everyone, not just Muslims. There’s not one category of the style any more; you can have modest street wear, modest minimalism, modest grunge – and so on.’

Torkia highlights a wonderful blend of influences on her own sense of style (Qatari Sheikha Moza bint Nasser is her fashion inspiration) and offers practical tips (the most flattering ways to tie a headscarf for your face shape) while telling the story of how she became a blogger with 1.4 million followers.

‘One of the reasons I started was because of my frustrations at not being catered for or recognised as stylish,’ she says. ‘In the last five years, with the rise of social media, dressing modestly has never been easier and the options are endless on the high street and among designers.

‘I wanted to create a guide that women could reference whenever they were looking for clothing help, but it’s also a celebration of how far the modest fashion movement has come in the last decade. I want people to enjoy it and for it to aid their understanding.’ Modestly, by Dina Torkia, is out now (Ebury Press, £16.99)
