Pieces worth packing – and some pre-trip pampering – from around the world
OVER THE RAINBOW
Louis Vuitton is taking a trip of a different kind this year, thanks to menswear artistic director Virgil Abloh’s Wizard of Oz-themed collection. This Tambour Horizon timepiece, complete with connected technology that features a My Travel section to house your itinerary, comes with a screen depicting the yellow-brick road. Cyclone-warning function not included. Price on application, louisvuitton.com.
A TOUR OF JAPAN
Cult Japanese brand Beams – founded during the 1970s in Tokyo’s bustling Harajuku district – has joined forces with e-tailer Mr Porter to launch a new capsule. Rustic denim jackets and utility shirts are neatly contrasted with elegant ties and pristine tailoring – a venture through the country’s style in one collection. From £120, mrporter.com.
ABOUT FACE
Historic fragrance house Acqua di Parma is venturing beyond its native Italy to open its first barbiere in London, housed in Selfridges. Designed by David Chipperfield Architects, the handsome space evokes the old-school charm of an Italian barbershop with walnut panelling, 1930s lighting and some of the most exceptional men’s grooming products around. Indulge in a wet shave and feel like a Fellini matinee idol. Shaves from £30, selfridges.com.
VENETIAN CLASS
Venice isn’t all gondolas and Murano glass; the surrounding area boasts some incredible clothing brands thanks to the region’s history of fabric production. One such brand is Slowear, which has various ‘arms’ devoted to different expertises. Part of its outerwear offering is Montedoro, whose new Dandy-tech combines continental dash with the nuts and bolts of winter dressing. The sleek coats ape the patterns on suiting, but are lightweight, water-resistant and windproof. Expensive? Yes, but so is a round of coffees in St Mark’s Square, and this will last you longer. Parka, £1,205, slowear.com.
