My Saturday Jewellery designer Monica Vinader on home-grown salads and Star Wars

9am I have a pretty lazy start, then go downstairs and make a cappuccino. I’m not a big breakfast person, so tend not to have it. My husband Nick [who works in the travel industry] takes the dogs, Olive, 13, and Spinner, three, black working cockers, for a walk around the garden where we live near Brancaster on the North Norfolk coast. My 13-year-old daughter Scarlett has online school on Saturdays – anything from physics to singing – so she’s at her desk from 8am. I water my plants. I’ve just put in two raised beds [in the garden] and I’ve been growing lots of veggies, things like lettuce, basil, butternut squash and melon. 11am I shower after my coffee. I’m quite specific about my products; I love all the ranges from Aēsop. Then I use Tan-luxe [self-tan] drops on my face. During lockdown, I have lived in jeans, trainers and a shirt. I love shopping at Donna Ida – some of my great-fitting jeans are from her. 1pm For lunch I take lots of lettuces from the garden and do a salad with spring onions, bacon, cheese and asparagus. I make a big bowl with lemon and Dijon dressing, and we sit in the garden. After lunch we take the dogs to the beach at Holkham, half an hour’s walk along the dunes, and go swimming. 3pm I’ve been video calling my parents, who are in their 80s, a lot. My sister Gabriela, who I founded the company Monica Vinader with, lives five doors down from them in London, so she’s been able to keep an eye on them. 6pm Nick, Scarlett and I chat in the kitchen, where we have a speaker – Scarlett’s been listening to anything from Queen to The Beatles. I make supper. We might have salami and Spanish cheese, and a tortilla I’ve cooked earlier. 7.30pm For the past few weekends we’ve been watching one Star Wars film after another. It’s nice to watch a family movie. Our living room looks out on to the terrace and pond, and we’ve got two super-comfortable sofas, which you can practically sleep on. 10.30pm Scarlett does her own thing. I like to get an early night. Nick comes to bed later and tends to send me funny memes [in bed]. He tries to put a smile on our faces.
