My Saturday Jodiekidd
The model and presenter, 42, on tending her veg garden in West Sussex and meeting friends in the local pub she saved from closure
8am Saturday mornings are for lazy lie-ins. I get up much earlier in the week, which is jam-packed with work, test-driving cars for my Youtube channel Kidd in a Sweet Shop. And I dip back to London to model now and again.
9am I do a corner-shop dash to buy the newspapers. I use the morning to read them all. It’s a ritual inherited from my parents. Midday I cook a brunch: avocado on toast with sausages and bacon, fresh juice and a weak Nespresso coffee. During the week I pop on to my Peloton but the weekend is my ‘off-duty’ time. I dress down in tie-dye sweatpants. I love Flo & Sang’s sustainable-cotton hoodies and Free People harem pants – I haven’t worn jeans in two years. 2pm I’m in the garden, where we grow all our own vegetables. Our sweetcorn is doing well and we have a generous herb patch with rosemary, parsley and oregano. My partner Joe [Bates, a tech entrepreneur] prepares the barbecue for later while Indio [her son, 10] has a kick about – the dogs, Boris [a pug] and Onyx [a black Labrador], run alongside him.
3pm We walk across the South Downs to the chalk hills for the views, then stop off at The Half Moon, a 17th-century pub I bought in Kirdford, where we might bump into friends like Alan Carr and the Delevingne sisters. It was my local and I couldn’t bear to see it struggle – many villages have lost their pub – so I bought it. When it first opened,
I did every job from pot-washing to making the cocktails. 5pm We prepare dinner with our family friend Rachel, 91, who lives with us and practically brought me up. She taught me all I know about cooking, including how to make a mean savoury soufflé. 6.30pm If the weather’s joyous, we’ll have a barbecue. Joe cooks the sausages or burgers while I make colourful leafy salads. I follow Tom Kerridge for cooking inspiration. 8pm Netflix or Disney+ will be on the box. We’ve recently watched The Mandalorian [a Star Wars spin-off series] – my son is a big fan. A cheeseboard isn’t too far away, and Nyetimber English sparkling wine. 10pm I have a bath with Aromatherapy Associates bath oil and creep into bed, drifting off to an audiobook.
