Titanic Belfast, the world’s largest Titanic exhibition, has been named Europe’s Leading Visitor Attraction at the World Travel Awards 2016. The project, which occupies the spot where the Titanic was built and launched, pipped the Acropolis, the Eiffel Tower and La Sagrada Familia to the top position.

With interactive exhibits and nine galleries of artwork, photographs and designs, the attraction celebrates the construction – and commemorates the sinking – of the Titanic. It has attracted more than three million visitors since it opened in 2012, on the 100th anniversary of the ship’s demise.

“After only four years in operation, to beat off stiff competition from Europe’s most iconic landmarks is a true honour,” said Titanic Belfast chief executive Tim Husbands. “The enduring story of Titanic captures

cheap domestic services, averaging £1.75 per 100km on no-frills airlines and £2.06 per 100km on premium carriers. In other words, a little over £20 for the 713-mile flight from Delhi to Mumbai.

Although 11th overall, China was the cheapest for international flights, with average fares of just 94p per 100km on low-cost airlines and £2.19 on full-service carriers.

Malaysia, Russia, Portugal and Indonesia were the other five cheapest. The US was 17th and the UK 32nd, although our low-cost domestic flights were the fourth lowest priced. hearts and minds throughout the world.”

More than 228,000 people voted for Titanic Belfast, and as Europe’s Leading Visitor Attraction it has been automatically shortlisted for the World’s Leading Attraction award. The category’s other finalists will be announced on October 15, and the winner will be crowned in December.
