WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

-

Could you propose a cruise for me and my wife on the Danube in September this year, finishing in Budapest? Could you also give me an idea of costs?

FAIZ ISHAK and tips are included on Uniworld, but not on Shearings.

If you can wait until 2019, you’ll have more choice of cruise line and cabin. Look at Emerald Waterways (emeraldwaterways. co.uk), Scenic (scenic.co.uk), Viking (vikingcruises.co.uk), Tauck (tauck.co.uk), APT (aptouring.co.uk), Riviera Travel (rivieratravel.co.uk) and Titan Travel (titantravel.co.uk).

As well as Upper Danube cruises sailing into Budapest from Germany and Austria, consider sailing into Budapest from Romania, which takes you through Bulgaria, Serbia and Croatia.

There are fewer cruises, and again capacity is tight, but if you can be flexible on the date, Emerald Waterways has a nine-day cruise from Bucharest to Budapest departing Oct 5 this year from £2,595 per person including flights, transfers, excursions most days, tips and drinks with lunch and dinner. If you can wait, Fred Olsen Cruise Lines (fredolsencruises.com) has a 10-night cruise from Romania to Budapest in Sept 2019 from £2,099 per person including flights.

insurance doesn’t always cover everything you might want, it is not something to ignore. In my view, the most valuable protection is the medical section, which will pay for treatment and/or repatriation if you fall ill or have an accident. And here, strangely enough, most policies have limits that are much higher than any claim is likely to cost – often millions.

Why do insurers set the limit so high? Probably as a selling point, and because they know that in reality, they will never have to pay so much. Unlike cover for possessions and gadgets, where they keep limits low, knowing that there is a high risk of claims.
