My private haven in the Seychelles

There’s Indian Ocean luxury in abundance on the island of Desroches, says Paula Hardy

A desert island idyll, on a coralline island fringed with white-sand beaches in the midst of a deep-blue ocean. Here you can cast away from modern life in some of the most deluxe accommodat­ion in the Seychelles, supported by Four Seasons spoiling service. buggy service is available, guests can scoot around on compliment­ary bikes.

The easy elegance of the interiors, which mix African artefacts and natural textures in a relaxed colonial style, invites guests to take a deep breath and relax into island life. Beach Bungalow to five-bedroom residences with oyster-shell chandelier­s and hi-spec kitchens.

All are expansive and unfold out to a decked area and a private garden with pool, gazebo and two-person hammock.

Inside, the creamy interiors are bathed in a pearly glow as the sun streams through floor-to-ceiling windows. Every comfort has been considered, from the fabulous canopied beds to the luxurious bathrooms finished with Royal Crema tiles and graphic rugs, beside which sit pebble baths framed against the tropical foliage. fruits and yogurts, alongside a cooked menu.

The most memorable dining experience is at the Lighthouse Lounge, where a twirling exterior staircase leads to a mezzanine level bar and a rooftop balcony with fabulous 360-degree views. Head chef Olivier Barré serves a menu of dry-aged French beef, raw fish and Seychelloi­s specialiti­es, such as island-raised pork glazed with Takamaka rum.
