GREEK ODYSSEY
This Hellenic journey starts on the outskirts of Thessaloniki on the
has walked to raise funds in memory of his son
my and my family’s decision to turn this most awful bad to good. We established the Christopher
Angus Fund (with the Glasgow Children’s
Hospital Charity) as a focus for raising funds in support of the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow – specifically the cardiology unit, where Christopher had been an outpatient.
Funds raised now exceed £30,000 and are being used to provide portable heart monitors for outpatients; the long-term aim is to raise £60,000. To that end, next
month I will be heading to the US to complete my next trek in the Grand Canyon, and in 2019 to Iceland for the Lava Trail. I’ve no doubt these treks will be as stimulating as those already completed – for each has been awesome, in landscapes that are unique, beautiful and truly impressive in terms of scale.
Donations to Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity (the Christopher Angus Fund) can be made at justgiving.com/ fundraising/ michael-angus2 north-west corner of the Aegean Sea. It then heads to the coast, followed by a ferry ride to gem-shaped Thassos island. “The emerald of the Aegean” is lined with quiet roads and traditional villages, ancient sites, clear blue seas and a lush green interior. After cycling a loop of the island, you’ll cycle back to Thessaloniki where the odyssey ends and the celebrations begin.
A three-day Greek Bike ride is available from Ultimate Challenges (020 7386 4680; ultimatechallenges.co.uk) including accommodation, bike hire, most meals, celebration dinner, transfers and flights. Departs Sept 17 2019.
