VIENNA REVISITED DECADES ON WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

-

Please can you advise of any travel companies running tours to Vienna suitable for two mature ladies? I last went there when I was 16 and would love to see the city again. Any advice you can give would be gratefully received. We don’t much mind what season we travel in, but would probably not want to be there in the height of winter.

Dear Clare

It all depends on what sort of holiday you are looking for. If you are planning to travel as a pair and want a tour operator to make the arrangements for you, then I would consider a company like Kirker Holidays (020 7593 1899; kirkerholidays.com). It will make your flight and hotel bookings (typically four-star and above), arrange your transfers and can advise on booking excursions, restaurants or tickets to musical or other performances. It also includes a Masterticket, which gives you free entrance to both the Leopold Museum and the Kunsthistorisches

Museum – two of the great sights of the city.

Cities Direct (01242 536900; citiesdirect.co.uk) also offers bespoke packages to Vienna and specialises in three-star hotels, so will probably offer cheaper rates.

If you prefer travelling with a group of likeminded people, an escorted tour can be an excellent way to get under the skin of the city.
