IS THIS THE FUTURE OF SKI WEAR?
Like many clothing companies, The North Face uses branded technology from Gore-Tex to give its jackets and trousers high-end waterproofing and breathability. But now it reckons it has produced something that works even better: FutureLight (pictured above), which launched at the CES technology show in Las Vegas last month.
The North Face wanted to make a material that’s completely waterproof yet fully breathable – but also soft-feeling, durable and eco-friendly.
FutureLight, the 100 per cent waterproof, fully breathable result, can be made in different thicknesses, so it can be used for activities like running as well as meet the varying demands of skiing and snowboarding from all-mountain to ski mountaineering.
Xavier de Le Rue, The North Face-sponsored snowboarder, says: “Once people have tested it, and become used to that breathability, they won’t be able to go back… it’s a game-changer.”
The North Face will be using FutureLight in its Steep and Summit ski/ snowboard ranges, which will be available from September 2019.
