GLOSSARY FOR THE MODERN TRAVELLER
Five years ago everyone was banging on about CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), a talking treatment used to treat anxiety, depression and a string of other mental and physical issues. Today, darling, we’re saying the same about CBD. That’s cannabidiol, one of the 119 cannabinoid compounds found in, yes, cannabis. CBD is legal and it doesn’t get you high (its lawbreaking co-worker, THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), has got that bit covered) but right now, CBD is very much the Diana Ross to the other cannabinoids’ Supremes, the star of the show, the one garnering all the column inches.
CBD oil tastes like hedge, but it’s supposed to chill you out and ease pain, and it’s the hottest ingredient on the planet right now. It’s made its way into chocolate, coffee, massage oil and face cream – as well as good old-fashioned joints and vape pens.
And it’s an acronym the modern traveller needs to know, because hoteliers, ever in hot pursuit of hipness, are sticking it on the spa menu in the shape of CBD facials and massages, in your morning coffee to negate caffeine jitters, and in hotel minibars. My minibar in a Miami hotel last week was almost entirely stocked with CBD-spiked goodies, including chocolate truffles, bottles of coldbrew coffee and gummy bears. You’ve been warned, my travelling chums: learn your cannabis alphabet. Learn The Lingo: “It’s all about using CBD as a tool for life, you know? In LA I tried CBD yoga in Venice and CBD-assisted asanas truly elevated my practice.”
