ALL THE GEAR
the Alentejo. Portugal is our special place and we’ve spent a lot of time out t there since. I’m not a massive city lover, but Lisbon is different. It’s on the water, it’s very creative, it’s got amazing food and wine and the Portuguese are cool people. It’s the only place I’d consider moving to.
I WAS ARRESTED IN ECUADOR ON MY GAP YEAR when I was just 18. I got rounded up by the police in Quito as I didn’t have my passport with me. I was in prison for a night, which was pretty frightening, made
SUITCASE
If I’m going on a smart holiday, I will always take a Globetrotter case. I like the old-fashioned style of the brand’s trunk-style luggage. From £1,570; globe-trotter.com
CAMERA
I take my trusty Leica camera with me everywhere I go.
Not only does it take really beautiful photographs, but it looks eye-catching, too. Leica Q from £3,700; leicastore-uk.co.uk
HAT
Nick Fouquet makes ridiculously expensive hats – but they are very beautiful. I’ve had one for years and it’s great for travel. I took it up Everest. From $1,225 (£980); nickfouquet.com
ECUADOREAN WITCHETTY GRUBS TASTE LIKE CHEESE

ELEPHANT TRAPS AREN’T EASY TO BRING HOME, as I discovered recently. I’m in the middle of making this big conservation series; and at one point in Uganda the anti-poaching patrols found a big ugly elephant foot trap. They insisted I brought it back. I needed a special licence to get it sent to me. When it finally arrived I opened it in front of my family, who were horrified. My plan is to take it to schools and show people the poachers’ brutality. Right now, my wife has banned it from the house.
