Where to stay
The Close (telegraph.co.uk/ tt-the-close-cotswolds), in handsome ’n’ handy Tetbury, offers artily styled rooms in a 16th-century manor at an affordable price (doubles from £120pn).
Thyme (telegraph.co.uk/ tt-cotswolds-thyme), in Southrop, is a hotel scattered across a handful of converted honey-stone barns and cottages, with oodles of space, exquisite food and plenty of romance (doubles from £245pn).
The Wild Rabbit (telegraph. co.uk/tt-cotswolds-the-wildrabbit), near Stow-on-theWold, is the height of green glamour: rural-chic rooms of exposed stone and aged oak beams, set on a sustainable organic farm. The food – local, seasonal – is a highlight (doubles from £120pn).
Regional restrictions are in place around the UK (see page 3). At the time of going to press, much of the Cotswolds is in Tier 2. For more information on staying away from your primary residence in the tier system, see: telegraph.co.uk/ tt-hotels-coronavirus-rules
LITTLE SOLSBURY HILL
Peter Gabriel wrote a song about this flat-topped hill just north-east of Bath. The views – across to the city and down the Avon Valley, over the southern Cotswolds – may inspire you, too. Distance: 10.5 miles
Map: OS OL 155
Route: Head south from handsome Marshfield (home to multiple pubs), crossing secretive countryside to climb to the old Second World War airfield on Charmy Down and on to Little Solsbury Hill. Return via the Limestone Link trail and Fuddlebrook Hill.
