CAREFREE COUPLES Switzerland
Swiss resorts may be among the most traditional and picture-perfect of all, but they continue to invest in their infrastructure. No more so than in Verbier, where the main Médran lift, which connects the town to the main ski area, has been fitted with new 10-seater cabins. Meanwhile, the midmountain stations have had stairs replaced by escalators to speed up access. Verbier, of course, is famous for its party atmosphere, which will hopefully gear up again this winter. Car-free
Zermatt, on the other side of the Alps, is a better option for a more peaceful stay for romantic couples. Its appeal will be further boosted this year with a new cable car, for both skiers and nonskiers, which adds an additional link to Cervinia across the border in Italy. Meanwhile, younger couples might think about Flims and Laax with its outstanding terrain parks. In Laax, there is also a new tree-top walkway to try once you have tired of tricks and backflips.
Book here: Le Mirabeau Hotel & Spa, a boutique family-run hotel conveniently near the Gornergrat lift in Zermatt.
