Actress sues over ‘trashy horror that ruined career’

- By Nick Allen in Los Angeles

AN actress is suing film-makers for $55 million (£35 million) claiming a poorly received horror film ruined her career.

Paz de la Huerta, 30, who is bestknown for her role as Lucy Danziger in the US television series Boardwalk Em

pire, starred in a movie called Nurse 3D, which was released last year.

In it she portrayed a nurse who kills men who cheat on their wives, in order to “keep scum off the streets”.

Miss de la Huerta claims she suffered a fractured spine during filming whe she was hit by an ambulance that was part of the production.

According to the actress she made clear she was going to file a compensation claim. The director then had another actress dub some of her lines, she claimed.

Miss de la Huerta claims that the dubbing led to criticism of her perfomance.

The film did poorly at the box office taking just $5,000 in its opening weekend. The actress claimed she was making $2 million a year before its release, but considerably less since.

She has argued her career should have been worth $55 million and is also seeking punitive damages.

Miss de la Huerta is also asking a judge to order that her own voice be restored to the film.

The film was made in 2011 but shelved for three years before being released.

It received mixed reviews with one critic declaring it “ridiculously lurid trash from start to finish”.

Miss de la Huerta is a former model who went on to forge a successful acting career. In 1999 she starred alongside Michael Caine and Charlize Theron in the film version of The Cider

House Rules.
