Lord Ashcroft reignites feud with Cameron

- By Peter Dominiczak POLITICAL EDITOR

THE feud between Lord Ashcroft and David Cameron erupted last night as the Tory peer accused the Prime Minister of being a member of a debauched Oxford University society and having been in environments where drugs were openly taken.

In a biography of the Prime Minister, Lord Ashcroft, who donated £8 million to the Conservatives, claims that Mr Cameron was aware that he had “nondom” status in 2009.

Mr Cameron has said he did not know about Lord Ashcroft’s tax affairs until 2010, when the issue was made public.

It is claimed Lord Ashcroft began his dispute with the Prime Minister after Mr Cameron failed to honour a promise to give him a “significant” job if the Conservatives won the 2010 general election. The book, which is serialised in the

Daily Mail, makes claims about Mr Cameron previously being present at events where drugs were openly taken. According to the book, sources said they did not see Mr Cameron, or Samantha, his wife, taking drugs.

The claims will prove embarrassing for Downing Street and will be seized on by new Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and his allies.

Lord Ashcroft, who is a billionaire and became involved with the Tory party in the Eighties, repeatedly criticised Mr Cameron ahead of the 2015 general election. He started funding polling for the party in 2005.

Last night, Downing Street declined to comment on the allegations made in the book, entitled Call Me Dave.

However, a Conservative source said that they “do not recognise” the claims made by Lord Ashcroft.
