Guernsey hit by £8m bill in fire extinguishers case
Guernsey has been left with an £8m legal bill after dropping its pursuit of the industrial conglomerate 3M over chemicals in its fire extinguishers. Two weeks into a trial, the Channel island gave up the case and agreed to pay the firm’s costs. Authorities spent two years suing 3M, claiming that using the extinguishers for more than two decades had polluted soil and water at its airports. The government is now reviewing the decision to sue.
