Twins killed at Olympic bobsleigh track
TWO teenage twins died and six others were injured after breaking into an Olympic bobsleigh track in Calgary and trying to shoot down it using their own sledge.
Jordan and Evan Caldwell, both 17, crashed into a large gate used to separate the luge and bobsled tracks, Canadian police said.
Six other teenage boys were injured on the track and taken to hospital.
An employee of the Olympic park called emergency crews to the closed track in the early hours of Saturday.
Many of the teenag- ers could not be identified because of their injuries, Calgary police said in a Facebook post.
Survivors are “severely traumatised”, said Sgt Paul Wyatt. Investigators were waiting to talk to them at the hospital.
The twins’ family paid tribute to them in a statement.
“Life is precious, life is fragile, and we must redeem the time we’re given,” it said. “Our boys Jordan and Evan were bright lights to all who knew them.
“We are grieving their loss but confident in their new home of heaven.
“Our brief 17 years with them were a gift: filled with much love, laughter and fond memories.”
Canada Olympic Park, owned and operated by WinSport Canada, was used during the 1988 Winter Olympics and the track has also hosted several World Cup events.
